1. What you are buying
Altypist is desktop software for macOS. You are buying a licence to use it, not the software itself. There is one way to pay: once. The licence does not expire, updates within your major version are included, and there is no subscription of any kind.
We did offer a monthly plan and withdrew it. If you subscribed while it existed, your subscription continues to work on the terms you agreed to until you cancel it, and you may write to us to convert it to a one-time licence instead.
2. Tiers and device seats
| Tier | Price | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49 | 1 device |
| Pro | $79 | 3 devices |
| Studio | $299 | 10 devices |
Prices are in USD and are launch prices; they may rise for new purchases, but never for a licence already bought. Volume pricing above 10 seats is on the organisations page.
A seat is occupied when you activate Altypist on a Mac. You may move a licence between machines: deactivate on the old Mac and the seat is free to use on the new one. The licence belongs to you, not to a particular computer.
Please do not share a key beyond the seats you bought. Activation is capped at the number of seats in your tier, so extra machines will simply be refused.
3. Free trial
Altypist includes a 7-day trial with every feature enabled. It needs no credit card and no account. When the trial ends, dictation stops until you enter a licence key; nothing you have already produced is affected, and the app does not delete anything.
4. 30-day money-back guarantee
If Altypist is not right for you, write to support@altypist.com within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund it in full. You do not need to give a reason. Refunds are issued to the original payment method through the payment provider.
On refund, the licence key is deactivated. Nothing you dictated is affected: we never held it.
5. Updates
Updates within your major version are included, and the app can install them for you. We do not promise a particular release schedule. If a future major version is ever sold separately, we will say so plainly before it happens rather than converting your one-time licence into a subscription.
6. System requirements
Altypist requires macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer), because recognition runs on the Apple Neural Engine. Intel Macs are not supported. The first launch downloads the recognition model and needs an internet connection once; after that Altypist works offline.
7. What Altypist does with your content
Nothing leaves your Mac. We never receive your audio or your transcripts, so we claim no rights over anything you dictate — it is yours, entirely. See the Privacy Policy for the detail and Security & Architecture for how it works.
8. Acceptable use
Do not redistribute, resell or sublicense Altypist, and do not attempt to circumvent licensing. You are responsible for using Altypist in line with the rules that apply to your own profession and jurisdiction — for example obtaining consent before recording another person where the law requires it.
9. Third-party components
Altypist is built on open-source components, including OpenAI's Whisper model, which remain under their own licences. A full list is in the application under About → Acknowledgements. Altypist is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI; “Whisper” is used only to identify the model.
10. Warranty and liability
Altypist is provided “as is”. Speech recognition is inherently imperfect, and you should review transcribed text before relying on it — particularly in clinical, legal or other consequential work. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.
11. Termination
We may deactivate a licence obtained fraudulently or used in breach of these terms. Otherwise your licence continues indefinitely — that is what buying it means.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change. Material changes will be announced on the site. Changes do not apply retroactively to a purchase already made.
